What Every Cancer Patient Should Know
Powerful Research on Cancer
Very often a diagnosis of cancer leaves patients feeling powerless and helpless, at the mercy of their doctors and medical treatment providers. This loss of a sense of control and power contributes to an increase in physical illness and a deterioration of one’s emotional state, often leading to severe anxiety and depression symptoms.
Although we live in a culture which in many ways glorifies the physical body, at least as far as certain physical characteristics are concerned, most of us live lives which are so busy we are often out of touch with our bodies and our senses. As a result it becomes easy to engage in behaviors which do not promote health and in lifestyles which contribute to illness and stress. Constant stress exhausts the immune system and leads to illness and premature aging.
The scientific research is very clear as to the beneficial effects of practices such as progressive relaxation (see Dr. Brumley’s CD “Stress Solutions”), meditation (Dr. Brumley’s CD “Mantra Meditation”), and biofeedback training (more about this in a moment). It is clear that all of these practices aide in the body’s overall health in very specific ways and increase the body’s natural defenses against disease.
Doing one of these three practices on a daily basis, to take the body out of the stress response and activate the relaxation response within the body, is absolutely essential to effectively dealing with stress and preventing stress from creating a situation where we become vulnerable to all different types of illnesses.
